Introducing AIF Clinton Fellow at Vision-Aid Vizag, Pallavi Deshpande
Pallavi Deshpande is an AIF Clinton Fellow. Her AIF fellowship took her to Vision-Aid's center at Vizag. During her visit she was able to serve and observe the Vision-Aid's new scholars’ program that was piloted this year which prepares young men and women from rural areas through a residential, intensive 6-month skills program for workplace readiness.
Her key takeaway in the past few weeks working at Vision-Aid and observing the scholars daily in their learning environment is summed up in her own words, “ it is time we start to invest in a model that in turn invests in ability and skill building to help the visually impaired have their shot in our hyper-competitive job market, not simply create a separate one.. … and to push the envelope when thinking about inclusion and access for the visually impaired”.
