About Vision-Aid

We have created a network of Vision Rehabilitation and Education centers throughout India that currently Enable over 20,000 underprivileged individuals who are visually impaired and blind through a comprehensive range of assistive tools and devices. We Educate them with holistic training programs that increase their literacy, mobility, independence, and marketable job skills, and we Empower them with counseling and guidance that increases their confidence and motivation to pursue their ambitions.  

Our USA team consists of over fifty Ophthalmology, Optometry, Software, Education, Finance and Business uncompensated volunteer professionals that are supported by a highly talented front-line organization in India. Almost all the funds raised from our gracious donors go directly to help the visually impaired in India.  We plan to grow our support by 30% per year in the coming 2 years through partnerships, valuable services and optimizing operational efficiencies and costs.  

Our collaborative Resource Centers partners are among India’s top 5 rated institutions such as the Aravind Eye Hospital at Madurai, Sankara Nethralaya at Chennai and Kolkata, L.V. Prasad Eye Institute Hyderabad, Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital at Delhi, Voluntary Health Services Hospital in Chennai and Community Eye Care Foundation (CECF) in Pune.  These Vision-Aid Resource centers provide low vision assessment, assistive devices and training, orientation and mobility training services, affordable and innovative technology  such as electronic digital magnifiers, breakthrough Artificial Intelligence Smart Vision Glasses and computer education among others. The Online, and Classroom education initiative run via the Vision-Aid Academy increases the literacy, personal communication, mobility, independence, competitive entrance examinations and interviewing skills and soft skills to succeed in corporate jobs. Our Blind school initiative equips young students with computer skills and with innovative Tactile Braille Book developed by our partner Raised Lines Foundation (an IIT Delhi startup)  for improving STEM education for children with visual impairment.  

What’s more, Vision-Aid is creating job opportunities for the persons who are visually impaired with its Web Digital Accessibility Testing (DAT) center. Our DAT team consisting of Blind and Visually Impaired programmers and testers  has won contracts from UMass, Michigan and several India based high tech enterprises. Our focus on DAT and a range of technology training programs is helping to create employment opportunities for the visually impaired in the Technology sector.  Vision-Aid USA (www.VisionAid.org) is a USA 501©3 non-profit, and Vision-Aid India (www.VisionAidIndia.org) is an 80G recognized NGO that has been approved for FCRA by the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs.
