
Vision-Aid Resource Center Vizag
Vision-Aid operates via two centers in Visakhapatnam, offering a comprehensive range of courses in Computer Applications, Mobile Technologies training, Spoken English and Orientation & Mobility training for the visually impaired. The Vizag team also offers training camps in surrounding blind schools and delivers online classes that are streamed to remote locations. Initially the focus was on low vision screening programs supported by VA Inc (USA) in Government Schools. After evaluation we provided medicines, eyeglasses and other assistive devices as per they need. Subsequently a classroom model was implemented imparting computer training, Kitchen Training, Orientation and Mobility
VACS also researches and assembles low cost assistive devices and has won several national awards for its innovative inventions – the Camera Mouse, Camera Cat and Vision Wand. In 2019, VACS added a new residential scholarship program wherein visually impaired students can stay for six-months in a residential setting for deep skills training.
Innovations
A few of Vision-Aid’s several assistive devices are listed below.
Camera Mouse:

Camera Mouse device is a good example where illumination and Magnification are created and Contrast is also used to help Low Vision persons view small print and write in small spaces. It is an Electronic Magnifier CCTV that works in conjunction with any common domestic TV.
Innovated by Vision – Aid and acclaimed by the Department of S&T India as one of the 60 best innovations of independent India, the Camera Mouse is popular since 2008 due its simplicity, ruggedness and low cost ( a tenth of comparable global models).
Vision Aid’s Portable Reading Stand with line marking Cursor:

This is basically a home-work table for close viewing work by Low Vision students. It holds the papers or books at fixed focus distance and marks the line of view.
Camera Cat:

This is a classroom wireless device that enables Low vision students to clearly view distant black board.
Vision Aid’s Electronic Wand:

The true friend of a blind person- a hand-held short wand that remotely detects obstacles and also gives beep alert to approaching traffic .It can be used independently or as attachment to a conventional cane.
Resource Centre
In 2011 Vision-Aid started another resource centre, in the campus of Gayatri College, in Dwaraka Nagar, the commercial hub of Vizag. The space was given for a very nominal rent by Ba Bapu Seva Sangam.

In the multi-disciplinary hub of Dr. L Bullayya College there are unique jewels one of which is Vision-Aid Centre located in the west wing started in 2018 by Dr. Madhu Kumar garu (Secretary & Correspondent of Dr. L B C group of Colleges) with great support of our Vice President Mr. CA. Avasarala Srinivasa Rao garu convener of Rotary Club, Waltair.

Training sighted teachers to ACA certificate level, introducing them to us Access Technologies for Microsoft Office elements, enabling them to teach vision impaired persons.
Partners Training Programs

We conducted Partners Training Programs at Dr. L B College Centre wherein members from various partners underwent training in various courses of Vision-Aid.
Dissemination of know-how:


Vision Aid creates and documents knowhow packages, books, monographs and charts that help vision impaired persons and their service-providers. The prominent among these are;

Statutory Recognitions & Certifications
- VAI has obtained the required Statutory Certifications as applicable to an Non Governmental Organisation (NGO). These include Exemption for the Donations received, Exemption from paying Income tax.
- VAI obtained the FCRA registration in the year 2009 which has been renewed till March 2026.
- Assessment Orders for completion of the Income Tax Filing till the Financial Year 2021-22 have been obtained.
