Exciting New Collaboration with Dr. Jawaharlal Rohatgi Smarak Netra Chikitsalaya
Since July 2023, the partnership with Dr. Jawaharlal Rohatgi Smarak Netra Chikitsalaya (JLR Eye Hospital) to establish a resource center in Kanpur, aims to empower individuals with vision-related disabilities, helping them lead more independent lives.
Vision-Aid’s Mission with JLR:
Since 1958, Dr. JLR Eye Hospital (formerly Kanpur Eye Hospital) has been dedicated to eliminating avoidable blindness in Uttar Pradesh. This collaboration aims to extend affordable, high-quality eye care to everyone.
Key Initiatives:
Specialized Eye Care: Leveraging state-of-the-art facilities and experienced professionals to ensure top-quality eye care services from diagnosis to follow-up.
Holistic Rehabilitation: The collaboration with JLR offers comprehensive rehabilitation programs, including assistive technology training.
Community Outreach: Extending efforts to community education, raising awareness, and promoting inclusivity for individuals with visual impairments through campaigns. Awareness campaigns on referral for vision rehabilitation have commenced, targeting many ophthalmologists and eye care professionals in the Kanpur region.

Success Story:
Mrs. Nazia, a bright and ambitious woman, was diagnosed with low vision at 34. She faced numerous challenges in her daily life due to her visual impairment. Despite her intelligence and determination, the lack of appropriate resources and support limited her opportunities.
Her life changed when she came across the Vision-Aid JLR Resource Centre through an outreach program. The center assessed her needs and provided her with specialized support for low vision.
The Vision-Aid JLR Resource Centre provided Mrs. Nazia with magnification devices, including electronic magnifiers and special reading glasses. These tools significantly improved her ability to read books, use her mobile phone, and perform other tasks independently. She also received orientation and mobility training, enabling her to navigate her environment confidently and safely. She learned techniques to maximize her remaining vision for better mobility.
With this support, Mrs. Nazia made remarkable progress. She started teaching children with low vision and sharing her experiences to inspire and support others facing similar challenges. She also volunteered with the Vision-Aid JLR Resource Centre, mentoring other low-vision individuals.
