Aravind Eye Hospital Tirupati (AEH)
Aravind Eye Hospital (AEH) in Tirupati is renowned for its commitment to providing high-quality and affordable eye care to all sections of society. Since July 2023, AEH Tirupati has joined forces with Vision-Aid to enhance eye care services and rehabilitation programs for visually impaired individuals.
This partnership focuses on extending eye care services, offering training and support to enhance skills and independence for visually impaired individuals, and developing assistive technologies to aid them in their daily lives. Such collaborations are crucial in addressing the comprehensive needs of individuals with visual impairments, ensuring they receive both medical treatment and the necessary support to lead fulfilling lives.
HIGHLIGHTS IN 2024:
AEH Tirupati has offered over 300 sessions to nearly 280 beneficiaries in 2024. The services include low vision evaluation, assistive device distribution, counseling, orientation and mobility training, and visual skills training.
Low Vision Clinic for Children with CVI:
In collaboration with Vision-Aid, AEH Tirupati has established a Low Vision clinic along with the Early Intervention Centre to cater to children with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). This clinic provides patient assessments, functional visual evaluations, and counseling, significantly improving care and outcomes for these children.
Vision Therapy Programs:
AEH Tirupati has introduced in-office vision therapy for local patients and initiated online vision therapy for children with CVI, facilitated by a special educator from the Low Vision team at the main hospital of Aravind Eye Care, Madurai. These programs aim to improve visual skills and overall functioning.
Outreach and Awareness through Continuous Medical Education (CME):
AEH Tirupati is actively engaged in educational activities to improve care for individuals with visual impairments.
Activities include:
- Participation in the ‘Unlocking the Mysteries of CVI’ CME at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai.
- Conducting classes for fellows, refractions, and staff at the Low Vision Clinic.
- Participation in the Neuro-In Sight CME at Aravind Eye Hospital, Tirupati, and showcasing Low Vision Devices to raise awareness among local ophthalmologists and medical colleges.
