Aravind Eye Hospital Pondicherry
Since July 2023, Vision-Aid collaborates with Aravind Eye Hospital Pondicherry, to extend eye care services and rehabilitation programs for visually impaired individuals. This partnership focuses on providing access to eye care, offering training and support, and offering assistive technologies.
KEY INITIATIVES
Training and Continuing Education
- Optometrist Training in Low Vision Assessment: In September 2023, an Optometrist from Aravind Pondicherry underwent intensive training in low vision assessment for adults at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. This training ensures that the team can provide specialized care for individuals with low vision.
- Continuing Medical Education (CME) Attendance: The AEH Pondicherry team participated in the “Unlocking the Mysteries of CVI” CME event at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, gaining valuable insights into Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) to better address the needs of affected individuals.
Serving the Community
The resource center at AEH Pondicherry has served over 1000 beneficiaries through numerous sessions/interventions. The visually impaired received orientation and mobility training and mobile technology training and low vision device training and education and counselling was also offered.
The commitment to high-quality eye care ensures that our community receives the support needed to maintain healthy vision.

Serving the Community
An exhibition was organized to raise awareness about eye care among school students and the wider community. Through interactive displays and educational materials, the team strives to empower individuals with knowledge about the importance of eye health.
Continuous Medical Education event (CME)
Held in March 2024, CME event provided valuable insights to medical professionals. Highlights included a lecture by Dr. Veena on low vision and a workshop on low vision aids, enhancing understanding and skills among attendees.
Community Outreach Camps
Screening camps were conducted at various schools for the visually impaired, including the Government School in Cuddalore, Deepam Special School in Villupuram, Sathya Special School, and Ananda Ranga Pillai Special School. These camps are vital in providing essential eye care services to underserved communities.
