Vision-Aid is partnering with the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Vijayawada and conducts a Digital Literacy Training Program for the Visually Impaired from the greater Vijayawada region.
The project aims to offer computer literacy training to individuals with visual impairments, helping them develop vital digital and employability skills. Launched in 2022 as a collaboration between the LV Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Vijayawada and Vision-Aid, the program has successfully trained students. This initiative empowers many participants to continue their education or secure employment opportunities.
The computer literacy training program follows a structured three-month format, organized into four batches per year. The curriculum provides comprehensive training in essential digital skills, including the fundamentals of computers, MS Office applications, accounting software, internet usage, social media, e-commerce platforms, and the use of smartphones with accessibility features. In addition to digital literacy, the program includes capacity-building sessions focused on aptitude development, grammar, arithmetic, current affairs, general knowledge, and fundamentals of banking. These sessions are designed to support students who aspire to pursue careers in the public sector by preparing them for competitive examinations such as banking and civil services.
To enhance employability, the program also incorporates prerequisite skills training in areas such as Braille literacy (as required), orientation and mobility, personal grooming, personality development, soft skills, and mock interview preparation. These modules are tailored to meet individual student needs, as determined through structured assessments.
By the end of 2024, the program has helped around 130 students.
