I am Anil Kumar, a person with vision impairment and a strong belief in hope. I dream of becoming a professor and researcher, driven by my curiosity and love for learning. I enjoy music, coding, finance, politics, and economics.
Vision Revealment
I was born with partial vision. I could see colors and movements. But after a surgery that did not go as planned, I lost my sight completely.
As a child, I wanted to be an army officer, not realizing my limitations. Over time, I learned to accept reality while still holding onto hope and a sense of purpose.
Facing Reality
Adjusting to blindness was difficult. I faced judgment, exclusion, and even ridicule. But my family’s unconditional love gave me strength. Their support helped me face challenges and move forward with courage.
Academic Journey
My parents treated me just like any other child. They expected hard work and discipline. My mother’s efforts were incredible. She travelled long distances every day, learned Braille and mathematics just to teach me, and managed everything with patience and grace.
With the support of my teachers and friends, I gradually learned to study on my own. I became independent, curious, and confident in my learning.
Discovering Vision-Aid
My journey with Vision-Aid began when a friend and I were looking for a Python programming course. After searching online, we found Vision-Aid, an organization dedicated to empowering visually impaired learners through technology.
Transforming Through Learning
Joining Vision-Aid changed not only how I studied but also how I saw myself. I began learning with curiosity, not just to pass exams but to truly understand and create.
For the first time, I started enjoying the process of learning, researching deeply, thinking critically, and sharing my ideas with confidence during seminars. Each presentation became a proud moment, reminding me of how far I had come.
Today, I have many ideas and dreams, projects that I want to bring to life and solutions that I hope can help others. My learning journey has become a way to give back to society.
Thanks to Vision-Aid, I did not just learn how to code, I learned how to think differently and to see possibilities where others see obstacles. I realized that true vision is not about what our eyes see, but what our minds imagine.
This experience became a turning point in my life. Now, I find joy in helping others learn, sharing my knowledge, and seeing them grow. That, to me, is the real meaning of education — learning, sharing, and helping others move forward.
As the saying goes, “Each one, teach one.”
That is what I live by — to keep learning, to keep teaching, and to light the path for others, just as Vision-Aid once did for me.
