The Inspiring Journey of Mr. Yogendra Singh
This article highlights the remarkable story of Mr. Yogendra Singh, a visually impaired shopkeeper whose life has been transformed through Vision-Aid’s skill development programs. His journey is a testament to resilience, continuous learning, and the life-changing impact of accessible technology.
Early Life and Challenges
Born in 1992 with a vision problem, Yogendra gradually lost his eyesight as he grew older. Despite consistent challenges, he completed his schooling and graduation.
However, his vision deteriorated completely in his later years, compelling him to discontinue further studies.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought additional hardships when he lost his father, creating severe financial strain. With an elderly mother who often remains unwell and two brothers to support, Yogendra opened a small shop to sustain his family.
His persistence and determination make him a role model for many visually impaired individuals who fear that vision loss limits their future. Yogendra proves otherwise.
Discovering Vision-Aid and Mobile Accessibility
Yogendra came to know about Vision-Aid through some references and joined mobile technology program. Before joining Vision-Aid, he was unaware of TalkBack, the built-in accessibility feature on Android phones.
He depended entirely on others for basic mobile tasks—including making calls, sending messages, and accessing online services.
Upon enrolling in Vision-Aid’s Mobile Technology Course, Yogendra learned that visually impaired individuals can operate smartphones independently with the right training. Today, he confidently:
- Makes and receives calls
- Sends messages
- Uses WhatsApp
- Navigates apps
- Utilizes accessibility functions independently
Gaining Independence as a Shopkeeper
Digital payments are critical for his shop’s daily operations. Previously, Yogendra could not verify online transactions without help. After completing the course, he can now:
- Independently confirm incoming payments
- Order grocery supplies online
- Manage his shop more efficiently using his smartphone
This newfound independence has significantly strengthened his confidence and business operations.
Expanding Skills and Future Aspirations
Driven by the ambition to secure a government job, Yogendra enrolled in Vision-Aid’s IBPS Job Coaching Course to prepare for competitive examinations.
He has also completed Vision-Aid’s Spoken English Beginners Course to improve his communication skills.
These additional trainings have equipped him with stronger skills, broader opportunities, and renewed motivation for the future.
Gratitude and Acknowledgment
Yogendra expresses deep appreciation to Vision-Aid. He acknowledges the significant impact of Vision-Aid’s programs and proudly states that he can now operate his mobile phone with the same confidence as a sighted user.
In his own words:
“I am very thankful to all the Vision-Aid teaching staff who supported me in fulfilling my dream. I am also grateful to the Vision-Aid team and the trainer who inspired me to move forward with my future plans.”
Today, Yogendra stands more confident, independent, and empowered than ever before. His journey reflects Vision-Aid’s mission to enable, educate, and empower individuals with visual impairment.
His story is a powerful reminder that with the right support and accessible tools, no challenge is insurmountable.
