In today’s world, skills are the foundation for unlocking opportunities, especially for marginalized communities like individuals with visual impairments (VI). Vision-Aid India is addressing this challenge through skill-based training programs designed to empower the visually impaired and help them secure meaningful employment.
One of our such initiatives is the BPO Voice Process Training, a program tailored specifically for visually impaired individuals. This program is inspired by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and focuses on preparing participants for customer service roles in the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) industry. BPO jobs, especially in voice processes, emphasize communication skills, customer query handling, and professional phone etiquette—skills that visually impaired individuals can excel in with proper training.
Program Design and Curriculum
The program’s curriculum is comprehensive, combining standards set by NSDC with Vision-Aid’s expertise. Key areas of focus include:
MS Office: Teaching fundamental computer skills.
Voice Process: Training in handling customer queries and building a professional phone demeanor.
Corporate Skill Development: Soft skills like communication, problem-solving, and time management.
Communicative English: For writing professional emails and transferring calls.
Mobile Technology: Leveraging mobile devices as workplace tools.
This hands-on training ensures candidates are ready to step into BPO roles confidently. The program was initially launched in Tamil Nadu, and after a thorough selection process, eight determined and talented candidates began training on September 2, 2024. Conducted online via Zoom, the three-month training is available in both English and Tamil.
Placements and Future Growth
Vision-Aid is committed to supporting candidates even after training. A robust placement support system will help match graduates with potential employers, ensuring they find roles where they can thrive and build long-term careers. This initiative marks a significant step toward fostering independence for visually impaired individuals and creating a more inclusive workforce.
New Partnership: “Empower Her – BPO Training for Visually Impaired Women”
Building on this success, Vision-Aid has partnered with the NAB India, Centre for Blind Women & Disability Studies to launch the Customer Care Executive (CCE) Training Program at its Vizag location. This initiative, titled “Empower Her,” will provide specialized training to 10 visually impaired women from November 2024 to March 2025. Vision-Aid will serve as the implementing partner, while NAB India Centre acts as the knowledge partner.
This new program aims to further enhance employability for visually impaired women, equipping them with the skills needed for BPO roles. By combining training with placement support, Vision-Aid and NAB India Centre are committed to promoting inclusivity and creating livelihood opportunities for visually impaired individuals.
Through these initiatives, Vision-Aid continues to transform lives by helping visually impaired individuals gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed.
