Early Life and Educational Challenges
Mohan hails from Salem, Tamil Nadu. Born with only 40% vision, he faced significant challenges in his early education. Despite these obstacles, he completed his schooling in a mainstream school in 2013. Reading from the blackboard and printed books was particularly difficult for him, but with the support of his friends and teachers—who helped him with notes—Mohan persevered and continued his studies.
Academic Achievements
Mohan’s determination led him to pursue higher education. In 2016, he graduated with a B.Com and Computer Applications, and in 2019, he completed his, M.Com and Computer Applications. During his college, he effectively utilized the zoom-in and zoom-out features on his computer to accommodate his limited vision.
Early Career and the Quest for Direction
After completing his studies, Mohan prepared for competitive exams until 2021. Driven by a strong interest in technology, he began working as a video editor at a studio. Despite his enthusiasm, he was unsure how to build a sustainable career in the tech field due to lacking awareness about assistive technologies. to enhance the skills Mohan decided to take a Linux course in Bangalore, where he first learned about Vision-Aid and their training and placement support for visually impaired individuals.
Discovering Assistive Technology and Vision-Aid
Motivated to pursue a career aligned with his passion, Mohan enrolled in Vision-Aid’s BPO training program, an offline residential course held at the Advanced Training Centre in Chennai from February to June 2025. During the program, he was introduced to assistive technologies such as screen readers for computers and smartphones. For the first time, Mohan learned to operate his computer independently using these tools—a transformative experience that opened new opportunities for him.
Career Transformation and Success
Upon completing the training, Vision-Aid helped him to secure a position as an Accessibility Technical Consultant at Ampera Technologies. Today, he expresses immense gratitude to Vision-Aid for guiding him toward the right career path. Mohan’s journey highlights that while he always had an interest in technology, it was his exposure to assistive tools and mentorship through Vision-Aid that empowered him to turn his passion into a sustainable career.
