In 2025, Vision-Aid launched SATHI (Smart Assistive Technology for Holistic Inclusion) for the visually impaired, a program which aims to transform lives of visually impaired in different parts of India through technological empowerment.
An important part of this program is providing laptops to visually impaired students from under-privileged backgrounds, enhancing their educational opportunities and access.
As part of SATHI, Vision-Aid has partnered with IIT Delhi’s National Centre for Assistive Health Technologies (NCAHT) and the Saksham Trust for the Disabled to expand reach into several new parts of India.
One such recent addition in May 2025, is the Rajasthan Netrahin Kalyan Sangh (RNKS), a leading special school in Jaipur serving ~100 visually impaired students from classes 1 through 12. Renowned for its service to its students via its holistic educational approach, RNKS emphasizes not only academics, but extra-curricular activities including sports, and cultural excellence. Its students have achieved recognition in events like Khelo India and Paralympics, and actively engaged in dramatics and music nationwide. Additionally, RNKS operates a Braille press and publishes a widely circulated braille newsletter.
On May 13, 2025, at an inspiring event “Empowering Vision Beyond Sight”, Vision-Aid distributed laptops to meritorious students in grades 10-12 at RNKS. Distinguished guests included senior scientist Dr. Piyush Chanana (NCAHT, IIT Delhi) and CA Mr. Vijay Kumar Jain (Chief Guest).
The students receiving laptops and the school management, expressed joy and optimism, acknowledging that such support significantly enhances their confidence, academic performance, and career opportunities.
This is just the first step in a long journey, and in coming months, we look forward to supporting these students to become digitally proficient with their laptops and leveraging the power of many transformative technologies which are now available to them.
