Meet Shubhra, a determined and ambitious individual from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Born with normal vision, Shubhra completed her schooling in 2009 at India International School, Jaipur, where she pursued a commerce stream. However, during her first year of graduation, she began facing issues with night vision, such as difficulty in driving, walking, and reading small fonts. These problems gradually extended to the daytime as well.
Seeking medical advice, Shubhra was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa, a progressive disease that leads to gradual vision loss. Despite her diagnosis, she continued her education, enrolling in B.Com and simultaneously taking coaching for chartered accountancy (CA). She completed her B.Com in 2012.
However, shortly after her graduation, Shubhra contracted tuberculosis. The medication for TB exacerbated her vision problems, causing significant swelling in her optic nerve and major vision loss. She visited multiple doctors across India and eventually underwent stem cell treatment in Bengaluru for a year, which reduced the swelling and slightly improved her vision. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for her to study printed material. For the next few years, Shubhra remained busy with various treatments and consultations, but unfortunately she could not get her Vision back.
In 2020, her parents decided it was time for her to settle down, and she got married in 2021. Shubhra, still driven by her ambition and desire for independence, began exploring options career options She also began filling out forms for government job exams, including banking, but lacked guidance on how to prepare for them. Through a WhatsApp group, she came to know about the Vision Aid IBPS course and eagerly enrolled. This course provided her with the necessary guidance and training from scratch.
Her hard work paid off when she cleared the IDBI Bank Junior Assistant Manager exam and joined the bank. Undeterred, Shubhra continued to attempt the SBI PO and IBPS PO exams. Her persistence bore fruit as she cleared both the IBPS PO and SBI PO exams in March 2024 finally deciding to join SBI Bank as a probationary officer.
Shubhra says she is immensely grateful to Vision Aid for its career-oriented courses for the visually impaired community. Their comprehensive guidance and teaching enabled her to achieve her dream and become independent. Shubhra’s journey is a testament to her resilience, ambition, and the invaluable support provided by organizations like Vision Aid.
