The Inspiring Journey of Manan Khurana

Manan Khurana, a resident   from Delhi, is an example of determination and hard work. Born with 60% sight loss, Manan faced many challenges but never gave up. His journey shows that with support and a positive attitude, it is possible to overcome obstacles.

Early Struggles and Diagnosis

Manan attended a regular school like other children. However, he often had trouble reading the blackboard. At first, he managed his studies by wearing high powered  glasses and taking help from friends and teachers. But as the problem got worse, his family decided to visit eye specialists.

After many visits, Manan was diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease, a condition that affects vision. Despite this, he continued his studies in a regular school, relying on the help of his friends and teachers.

Academic Achievements

After completing school, Manan joined the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) program at Delhi Technological University. He used a magnifier to study and a scribe to help him during exams. With these adjustments, Manan successfully completed his B.Tech in 2023. He didn’t stop there. He also appeared for the GATE exam, a tough engineering entrance test, and cleared it.

Learning About Assistive Technology

For a long time, Manan didn’t know much about assistive technology. On the advice of his relatives, he visited Dr. Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital. There, he learned about Vision-Aid, an organization that trains visually impaired people. Manan joined their computer training course, where he learned to use a screen reader to work on computers. After completing the course, he also trained in digital accessibility testing, which taught him how to make digital content easier for everyone to use.

Professional Success

With his qualifications and the new skills he gained, Manan was able to start his career. He joined the Information Technology department at the Airports Authority of India, achieving one of his big dreams.

A Message of Gratitude and Hope

Manan is very thankful to Vision-Aid for helping him build his confidence and teaching him the skills he needed. His story is an inspiration for anyone facing challenges. Manan shows us that no matter how tough life gets, with the right mindset and support, success is always possible.
