In a remarkable step toward empowering individuals with visual impairment, Vision-Aid, in partnership with AIIMS Delhi and the Rotary Club, has distributed AI-powered Smart Vision Glasses to 53 blind and severely visually impaired individuals — completely free of cost — under Project SATHI.
Among the beneficiaries are 28 children from a School for the Blind, marking a significant milestone in the journey toward inclusive technology and accessible education.
Turning Sound into Sight: How the Smart Vision Glasses Work
The AI-powered Smart Vision Glasses are designed to transform everyday experiences for people living with blindness or severe visual impairment. Powered by advanced artificial intelligence, the glasses can:
- Read printed text aloud
- Identify everyday objects
- Recognize faces
- Detect obstacles
- Assist with navigation
By converting visual information into audio cues in real time, these glasses help users navigate the world with greater independence and confidence. Tasks that many take for granted — reading a book, recognizing a familiar face, or walking safely down a street — become achievable without constant assistance.

What sets this initiative apart is its strong foundation in research and long-term impact assessment. AIIMS Delhi has initiated a year-long clinical research study to monitor and evaluate how the Smart Vision Glasses affect the quality of life, independence, mobility, and emotional well-being of the recipients.
