Praveen Kumar’s Journey: Excellence in Athletics, Confidence in Communication

Praveen Kumar is a visually impaired para-athlete from India whose journey is shaped by determination, discipline, and dedication. As a javelin throw athlete, he has competed at national and international levels and proudly represented India.

His medals, trophies, certificates, and other accomplishments reflect years of hard work and commitment to athletics. For Praveen, becoming a successful athlete remains an important part of his journey. At the same time, his experiences through competitions and interactions with people from different parts of India and around the world have highlighted the importance of another essential skill—effective communication in English.

Athletics as His Passion, Communication as a Growing Need

As Praveen’s career as an athlete has progressed, he has had opportunities to meet athletes, officials, coaches, and other people from different regions and countries. These interactions have helped him understand that communication skills can play an important role alongside his achievements on the field.

For someone representing India at national and international competitions, being able to communicate comfortably in English can help him interact more confidently with people from different backgrounds, participate in conversations, and make the most of opportunities that come through his athletic journey.

To develop this important skill, Praveen joined Vision-Aid India’s Spoken English training programme on 3 July 2026.

Strengthening an Important Skill Alongside Athletics

While athletics continues to be a central part of Praveen’s life, he is also investing time in developing his English communication skills.

Through the Spoken English programme, Praveen is working on communicating more confidently and expressing himself more comfortably. The training is helping him develop a skill that can complement his achievements as an athlete and support him in his interactions during competitions, training programmes, events, and other professional and social settings.

Praveen Shares:

“As an athlete representing India, I meet people from different states and different countries. Learning spoken English through Vision-Aid India is helping me communicate with them more confidently. It is not only improving my English but also giving me the confidence to express myself and connect with people.”

Building Skills for Opportunities On and Beyond the Field

Praveen’s journey demonstrates that achieving excellence in athletics and developing other essential life skills can go hand in hand.

His achievements as a javelin throw athlete continue to be a significant part of his journey. At the same time, learning English is helping him prepare for the communication needs that come with meeting people from different backgrounds and representing India at different levels.

For Praveen, Spoken English is not simply about learning a language. It is about developing the confidence to express himself, communicate with others, build meaningful connections, and make the most of the opportunities that come through his journey as an athlete.

Continuing to Aim Higher

With dedication on the field and a willingness to learn beyond it, Praveen is continuing to build his skills and confidence. His journey reflects how athletic excellence and personal development can grow together, helping him prepare for both his present opportunities and his aspirations for the future.
